Minimize the Appearance of Veins with Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy

Varicose veins and spider veins can form when tissue that lies beneath the skin becomes less supportive. Smaller veins often branch off and form spider arms, and these become quite unsightly. Surgery can close off these small vessels, but the preferred method for reducing the appearance of spider veins is sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy a non-surgical treatment that uses a specialized solution to induce the closing off of blood flow through the small varicose veins. Not only does it improve the appearance of the skin, but it can also help to relieve swelling, burning sensations and night cramps.

We offer complete consultation and vein reduction for our clients who are seeking a simple, in-house method for treating these annoying- and often physically harmful – varicose and spider veins.

Before the Treatment

Before treatment at The Vein Center, we consult with our client and ask about medical history. Women who are pregnant or who are breastfeeding may want to wait a while before having this procedure done.

We look at the problem areas, determine the size and extent of the excess vessels and also examine the depth of the vessels and how much blood is passing through them. Certain medications can have an effect on the veins during sclerotherapy.

Those who are currently taking aspirin or pain medications may have to avoid them before the procedure to minimize the amount of bleeding or bruising at the treated sites.

How the Procedure is Done

The area to be treated is cleansed and the solution is injected into the involved vein. The solution interacts directly with the inner walls of the blood vessel. This happens quickly, even though blood is pumping through the vein and carrying some of the solution with it.

After the Procedure

No downtime is required after the treatment session is complete. In fact, it’s a good idea to perform regular physical activities because this increases blood flow and helps prevent clots from forming near the treated area. We usually have the client come in for a follow-up visit to examine the progress.
